The Hobonichi Techo 2027 went on sale on September 1, 2026, and the choice is the same as every year: the Original (A6, one page a day, 2,860 yen), the Cousin (A5, daily plus weekly pages, 4,620 yen) or the Weeks (slim, weekly, from 2,860 yen). If you want one answer, get the Original for daily writing, the Cousin if the planner is also your work calendar, and the Weeks if all you need is a week view.

What's new for 2027
The books themselves look familiar. Tomoe River paper, the 3.7 mm grid, one quote per daily spread. What changed is everything around them. Hobonichi says it is releasing more than 280 new items for 2027, and most of the news is covers and collaborations.
- New collaborations: Hello Kitty, Puppet Sunsun and the V&A museum in London are all new this year.
- Moomin, year two: last year's Moomin series comes back, now with a Weeks that carries Moomin quotes and illustrations.
- ONE PIECE magazine: a fifth year of this collaboration, released a month later than the rest, on October 1.
- TSUKI no IRO x Kakimori: new pens and inks from the stationery line, made with the Tokyo stationery shop Kakimori. This is the one to watch if you buy fountain pens.
- A flagship store: Hobonichi is opening its first flagship store at Tokyo Station.
Some of the collaboration covers sold out on launch day, so if you have one in mind, don't wait for a sale. A plain cover and a regular book are a lot easier to find.

Original, Cousin or Weeks?
I'll keep this short, because the longer version is already in our Weeks vs Cousin vs Original comparison.
Original (A6): the default pick
One full page per day, about the size of a paperback. The English edition has 464 pages, 377 of them daily pages, and it weighs about 195 g, so it goes in a bag without you noticing. The catch is that there are no weekly spreads. If you plan by the week, you will miss them. Hobonichi sells a separate 2027 Weekly Calendar (about 49 g, 53 weeks) that slips into the cover pocket for exactly that reason.
I think the Original is the right book for most people, mainly because the A6 page is small enough that filling it feels easy. Our Hobonichi Original review covers the paper and the cover system in more detail.

Cousin (A5): the one for planning
Same daily page, but twice the area, and it adds 106 weekly pages. That makes it 544 pages and about 445 g, roughly twice the weight of the Original. It's the book for people who keep appointments, tasks and notes in one place, or who paste things in. It's a lot to carry every day. Be honest with yourself about whether it will live on a desk or travel in a bag.

Weeks: the calendar
A narrow book with a horizontal week on each spread, about 133 g, with the cover built in. You don't need to buy a separate cover, which also makes it the cheapest way to get into Hobonichi. It isn't a journal. There's very little room to write about your day, and that's fine if you want a calendar and not a diary.

What it really costs
The official yen prices haven't moved: 2,860 yen for the Original book, 4,620 yen for the Cousin, 2,860 yen for the standard Weeks. At recent exchange rates that is roughly $20, $32 and $20. Think of that as the floor, not the total.
- Covers are extra for the Original and the Cousin. Official Original covers start at about 2,200 yen and go up a long way from there.
- Shipping from Japan and any import charges come on top, and they can be a real share of the price on a single book.
- Resellers charge more than list price for sold-out collaboration items.
Where to buy it
The official Hobonichi Store (1101.com English store) has the full range, including the English editions, and ships abroad. If you want a specific cover or a limited item, start there. Amazon is the easier route if you want a standard book without waiting on international shipping, though the price will usually be above the yen list price. Our guide to where to buy Japanese stationery covers the other options.

Which one I'd pick
If you're new to Hobonichi, the Original. If you already know you plan by the week, the Cousin. If you only need a calendar, the Weeks, and don't feel bad about it.
