About Us: Japanese Stationery Guide
Welcome to Japanese Stationery Guide. We are a team of stationery enthusiasts based in the United States who fell head over heels for Japanese craftsmanship. We are here to help you fall in love with it too.
It started simply enough. One of us bought a Pilot G2 at an office supply store, loved how it wrote, and wondered what else Japan had to offer. A few internet searches later, and one fateful order from JetPens, the obsession began. The Platinum Preppy introduced us to fountain pens. The Uni Kuru Toga changed how we thought about mechanical pencils. The Hobonichi Weeks transformed our daily planning. And the Kokuyo Campus notebook made us realize that paper quality matters just as much as the pen that writes on it.
What started as a personal collection, a few pens here and a notebook there, grew into something bigger. We found ourselves spending hours comparing tip sizes, testing ink dry times, reading Japanese stationery blogs with auto-translate on, and ordering from Amazon Japan at odd hours. Friends started asking for recommendations. Then colleagues. Then strangers on the internet.
That is when we realized there was no single, trustworthy English-language resource that brought together everything we wished we had known when we started. So we built one.
What We Do
Japanese Stationery Guide is a resource for stationery lovers at every stage. Absolute beginners wondering if a $5 Platinum Preppy is actually any good (spoiler: it is). Seasoned collectors looking for detailed comparisons between competing products. We cover all of it.
We test, review, and compare Japanese pens, planners, notebooks, and accessories. We buy every product ourselves. We do not accept sponsored reviews or paid placements. When I recommend something, it is because I have used it, tested it against competitors, and genuinely believe it is a good option at its price point.
Our Philosophy
Japanese stationery is special because of the thoughtfulness behind it. Japanese manufacturers obsess over the small things: the angle of a pen clip, the weight distribution of a fountain pen, the coating on a page of notebook paper, the tactile feedback of a mechanical pencil mechanism. These details add up to a writing experience that is genuinely better. Not more expensive. Not more exclusive. Just better designed.
I believe that great stationery should not be a luxury reserved for experts. Some of my favorite products cost less than $10. Our mission is to help you find the ones that will make a real difference in your daily writing life, without wasting money on things that look good on Instagram but disappoint on paper.
How We Review
Every product I recommend has been used in real-world conditions. Not unboxed, photographed, and shelved. I write with them for weeks. I test them on different papers. I compare them against direct competitors at the same price. I check refill availability, long-term durability, and how they handle left-handed use.
Our reviews are honest. If a popular product has a flaw, I will tell you. If a lesser-known product punches above its weight, I will tell you that too. My only allegiance is to the reader who wants to make an informed decision.
